Permanent Residency

PR in Canada

In a country of which a person is not a citizen, but has the right to reside permanently, permanent residency (PR) is their status as residents. Traveling to Canada requires you to have a valid PR card or PRTD (Permanent Resident Travel Document). A Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) is your official proof of your status as a permanent resident. Students and foreign workers in Canada temporarily are not considered permanent residents. You must have lived in Canada for at least 730 days in the last five years to maintain your permanent resident status.
